Doreen Baskin lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband Erik, and their three children.  She received her BFA from the University of Illinois in 1984 and returned home to Chicago to begin her career.  For the next twelve years she worked at a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed children, by day, while creating her ceramic art by night.  In the summer of 1996, she quit her day job, moved to New York and began working in ceramics full-time in her Brooklyn studio.  Doreen has exhibited her work in galleries throughout the United States.

After the birth of her son Julian, Doreen took time off to raise him and his twin sister and brother, Isabele and Oliver.  Throughout this time off, she has kept her hands in clay.  She now has a studio in her basement and participates in 1-2 shows a year.  Now that all of her children are in school, she has resumed her career as a full time ceramist.
